7 Deadly Sins Of Prepping That You Should Aware Of

Do you think that prepping takes a large part of your free time? Do you find prepping expensive and can’t manage the finances? Or, you feel overwhelmed and don’t know what to include in your prepping supplies?

You are not alone. Every prepper has had these thoughts on their mind at a certain point. Experienced preppers would advise you to avoid the following seven deadly sins when prepping!

Not prepping

When we talk about prepping, people have a different opinion. No matter your personal beliefs, it would be best if you were prepared for an emergency. Many people might not believe that there will be a catastrophic event that will end to the society we know today. However, we must not exclude natural disasters. If you think that the end of the world is an unrealistic scenario, be prepared for the natural catastrophes. Different types of disasters have happened throughout history, so be prepared to cope with them in case of emergency.

No planning

Experienced preppers start with a carefully thought plan for prepping. If you don’t plan, you will never be prepared. Write down the supplies that you will need to get. But don’t forget that you should gather skills and knowledge too. Determine the skills and supplies that you will need in case of emergency, and define the individual steps you need to take to obtain them. This is a clearly defined plan that will guide your actions and ensure that you reach your prepping goals. For example, one of the steps would be putting together a car emergency kit. Another step can be talking with your family and coming up with a secret codeword system.

Inconsistence

Being consistent with prepping is a significant thing. Some beginner preppers stock on supplies when they hear about a particular disaster somewhere in the world. In fear of something similar happening in their area, they will run to buy all the supplies. When all the fuss and news about the disaster start to fade, the preppers will stop wth their actions return to their routine. However, this isn’t the right approach. Experienced preppers like to have a steady and constant pace. It is better that you work on your prepping goals continually.

Not determining a budget

Prepping gives you peace of mind, but we mustn’t forget that it comes with a price tag. Spending all of your savings on emergency supplies is a poor financial decision. As a prepper, you need to be responsible when it comes to money. You can determine a monthly budget for prepping that works with your income and other costs. Avoid splurging on the most expensive prepping supplies and equipment and get the best value for your money. Consider different options and compare them with all their pros and cons to ensure that you have a reasonable purchase.

Poor time management

Planning and prepping can take a lot of time to be completed. Knowing this, you need to be very careful with how you manage your time. You don’t want to spend too much time prepping while neglecting your other responsibilities, such as work or spending time with your family. Make sure that you achieve a right balance and manage your time accordingly. We suggest that you do a weekly schedule of activities connected to prepping to ensure completing your goals but also managing your other everyday tasks.

Neglecting other aspects of life

As we already mentioned, you need to invest time and effort to prep for an emergency. But, it would be best if you didn’t neglect the other aspects of your life. It is all about achieving the right balance. If your focus is prepping only, you won’t be able to dedicate yourself to a career, nurture your relationships, or save money for your kids’ education. The world can face a major disaster at any time, but what if it didn’t? You need to be prepared for your everyday life as well.

Not keeping it private

Prepping is a tricky topic, so you should keep it as private as possible. You can discuss this topic with people, but keep all the details to yourself. Don’t reveal your bug out location or the number of supplies that you stored. Many preppers don’t like to share details to avoid potential looters in a case of emergency. Keep a low profile and avoid discussing specific details of your prepping plan.

Final words

Preppers should do their best to maintain a balance in life. Keep in mind that you shouldn’t sacrifice your current life and neglect the other responsibilities because you expect an emergency to happen. Make sure that you manage your budget and time well.

What is your opinion on the subject? How do you manage to achieve a balance between prepping and all of your other life aspects? Feel free to share your opinion in the comments below!
