6 Reasons You May Not Be Able to Survive on Your Food Storage

Food storage is one of the prepper’s significant concerns. Having food supplies opens other essential questions, as you need to consider many different aspects. In this post, we discuss the top 6 reasons you may not survive on food storage!

1.Lack of food

Many people don’t have enough food storage. The truth is you never know for how long an emergency will last. Many families don’t have enough three weeks’ worth of food supplies. Preppers like to be safe and have at least a few months covered with food supply. 

2. Improper storage

Even if you have enough food, it won’t be of any use if not stored properly. When you need it the most, you might find out that the food is spoiled. Always make sure that you store your food in a proper package and proper conditions.

3. Storing items with a short shelf life

Many products that you would get at your local grocery store have a short shelf life. So, it is better that you always choose ones with a long shelf life. Honey doesn’t have an expiry date and can give you a boost of energy. Both hard grains and soft grains can last for more than eight years if stored properly. Canned beans can also last for more than six years. Dehydrated fruit is another great option, as it can last for 30 years. 

4. Rodent infestation

Storing food can attract rodents and other pests. Make sure that you store your food in rodent-proof containers. Despite having uninvited guests, you won’t be able to use the food. Never consume food that has droppings of pests to avoid infections.

5. Poor nutritional choice

Humans need to consume different nutrients to survive. You need a mix of carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, and minerals. Don’t limit your food storage to only one type of food. 

6. Looters

Preppers are concerned about having their precious supplies stolen. To make sure that most of the supplies are safe, you should store them in different places. Many preppers stock their bug-out locations with survival supplies.
